John Barton Rozema Jr., affectionately known as Johnny to his family and friends, was born on August 22, 1997 and past away on December 18, 1997. during Johnnys short life with us, he made an everlasting impression on his family and friends.
Johnny had one of the best sense of humors and was always laughing with you or at you. He loved his slapstick comedy. His laugh was contagious every time. You couldn't help laugh along with him. Johnny was also known for his gentle, kind ways towards any child younger than him, especially babies. An angel at heart, Johnny always made sure nobody was forgotten in the family. He was the big brother to Luke and the little brother to Emily.
Johnnys favorite past time at home was video games. He dreamed of being a game designer. He enjoyed games like The Legend of Zelda and Super Smash Brothers Brawl. During his cancer treatments at John Hopkins Hospital, the Child Life Specialist would often refer to Johnny for guidance with the monthly purchase of video games for the Pediatric Oncology floor. I wish I could say he had that much enthusiasm towards his daily school work, but what boy does at that age. Though his passion for video games was strong, Johnny loved to be in the water. He would swim all day long. If his cousins Josh and Nathan would call him to come over to swim, Johnny was there.
Johnny also loved to push the envelope. His quick witt would often take family arguments to another level that I didn't know existed. I would tell him I was done arguing and that I didn't fall off the boat yesterday. His response one night was, "And what boat would that be Daddy?" It was hard to argue with those kind of one liners.
Johnny was also very appreciative of everything. One night at the hospital he woke up needing to use the urinal. Being a little unsure on his feet at times, he would ask me to hold the urinal bottle so he could steady himself with his other hand. While taking care of business, he leaned his head against mine and said, "Thanks for taking care of me Dad." You are welcome Buddy. Thank you for everything you taught and showed me.
Please add any stories that stand out in your mind about Johnny. This page was created so that we may all remember him in all his different ways. Holly and I would love to read them. Any opportunity to remember him hlps the family heal. We are all very appreciative of everything everybody has done for him from the time he was born to his very untimely death.
God Bless You Johnny!!
