Please join us in honoring Lieutnant Dennis DeVoe's life and legacy by sharing your story and memories for his family and friends so they will have a place to visit and learn more about the impact Dennis had on the lives of so many. Dennis was taken suddenly but had touched so many during his 45 years. Every firefighter knows the dangers of their work but they embrace that in the exchange for the opportunity to help countless others. Dennis epitomized this ethic and put his life on the line daily regardless of the possible consequences. Every person with whom he has come into contact with over the years has an amazing and unique story, perspective and memories of him. Please share those here along with any photos you might have so they can all be compiled in one place to celebrate and honor his life for this generation and his many generations to come. Every story, memory or tribute is appreciated, nothing is too small, they all matter.

I had the privilege to ride with Lt. Dennis DeVoe on Squad 8. Lt. DeVoe was one of the coolest and nicest guys I've ever meet. As soon as I stepped foot in the station he greeted me with open arms. It was an honor and privilege to get to meet Lt. Dennis DeVoe. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I met Denny a few year back. He came to me and said he would like his son Carson to join the Jr/cadet program. I of course said sure thing sounds great as long as you help us from time to time. I understand your a paid fire fighter and your very highly thought of around here. He laughed and sàid yeah I bet ànd smiled his huge smile. I had seen Denny before but never really talked with him that much. Once his son started those two were always looking to help out in anyway that they could. At our training's denny would gear up with us and put his spin on things and would talk the kids through any problems. Most of our training's were never planned out that much because we never really knew who was coming but we had a topic and built from there. Denny and Doug would always jump in and share there experience. I can see with Carson the drive and respect his parents bestowed in him and why he has a love for the brotherhood.
My wife Tammy had 2 pancreas transplants before and both gave her different tastes for food that each donor had. I pray that who ever gets Denny's heart is ready for something that big and full of love.

I've known Amy me entire life. That's because we share a name, birthday, and relatives, but didn't get to spend too much time with Denny. I was able to watch a beautiful love story on facebook. I enjoyed watching the small things that Denny would do for Amy even if it was cooking lunch on school day. It was apparent how caring, giving, and loving he was. I'm glad I got to witness a person give so much to others.

I loved when Denny taught a training at Eureka, Sta 54. He made me tried just watching him. He would run around showing people how it should be done. When it came time to clean up and put equipment away, I would tell Denny let the young ones do it. He would say " Hell Wayne I want to get done and want it right for the next use". And Laugh like Hell! The fire service is going to miss a Good One in Denny Devoe!

I had the pleasure of being Denny's "co-pilot" for a week as we traveled across Maryland to raise money for Cool Kids Campaign. Dennis selflessly gave up an entire week of his vacation time to donate his talents to Cool Kids. And he was amazing. During the Trek, Justin Berk and his fellow Trekkers bike and hike from Deep Creek Lake to Ocean City in 7 days. But they couldn't do that without the support of Dennis. He helped with navigation, did all the driving, carting around their bikes and other equipment, constantly driving ahead to check out the route and then circling back to ensure that the Trekkers were safe and handing out drinks and snacks. I'll never forget how he showed up the day we left with a wooden bike rack in the trailer that he had handmade the night before so the bikes could stay upright when not in use. During that week, he and I spent a lot of time just talking and waiting for the Trekkers. And the two things he talked about almost exclusively were firefighting and Amy and the kids. His passion and love for both were amazing and so inspiring. His love for Amy was so immense he glowed when he talked about her. In his world she hung the moon. And their four kids were his world. He also drilled into me the importance of always checking for sprinklers and knowing your fire escape route. Ha, he definitely took his firefighting duties seriously. But to this day I always check so it worked. Dennis' eternal smile will always be remembered as well as his devotion to his family and career.

I was working at the local library and in walks Denny, Amy, and the kids. A couple minutes later Denny plops down the most ridiculous book on the Circulation Desk. I proceed to check the book out. He stops me and says, "I'm just kidding. I just wanted to see your reaction!"

I have really enjoyed watching Amy and Denny's love story evolve via Facebook over the past few years. Truly inspiring.

Such a good guy. He will be missed!
