In many ways, my Dad’s battle with cancer was brutal, but in other ways it was a gift. As we watched his body waste away, we saw his spirit come to life. It was his battle with cancer that brought him to a point in his life where he made the decision to search for God and meaning. And after months of visiting all faiths and denominations he finally ended his search. He found the peace he had been looking for even in the midst of his personal storm. He realized that real life wasn’t found by trying to be a good person. He was tired of trying to be “good enough” and earn God’s love and acceptance. So when he met Jesus, he quickly experienced freedom and forgiveness. His burdens were lifted and even though the burden of cancer was heavy, he found relief. My Dad experienced the grace of God, and it felt good. He was joyful even in the darkest hours because he was right with God. This type of faith is the type of faith that makes other people believe. And my whole family wanted what my Dad had. So we all started to follow Jesus.
